Abstract

Novel design of the complementary multiple split ring resonator (CMSRR) based microwave antenna sensor with high sensitivity is proposed for edible oils detection. A strong electric field can be observed along the sides of CMSRR at resonance, creating an electrically small sensing region that is sensitive to changes in nearby dielectric material. The proposed sensor was fabricated and measured to operate at 8.49 GHz, which agrees very well with the simulated results obtain by High Frequency Simulator Structure (HFSS). By immersing the sensor inside different oils under test, the resonance characteristics changes greatly, which validates the proposed sensor has the ability to determine various edible oils commonly used in daily life.
