Abstract

In this paper we report the development and field test analysis of a high sensitivity fiber laser geophone array. The fiber laser geophone array, as well as a moving-coil geophone array for comparison purpose, is field tested using the downhole explosion method at different points of the array at Shengli oilfield, Shandong, China. The detailed information of the acquired seismic signals, e.g. waveform, frequency spectrum, and noise is analyzed for assessing the performance of the fiber laser geophone array. Single channel contrast, gather contrast and stack section contrast are analyzed between the fiber laser geophone and moving-coil geophone. In comparison the moving coil geophone, fiber laser geophones have the advantages of high sensitivity, wide bandwidth, and good high-frequency response. This work shows that using fiber laser technology to develop geophone for micro-seismic data acquisition system is both advantageous and feasible.
