Abstract

Experiments on a high Reynolds number flow around a thick strut in a duct, such as is typical downstream of the exit-flow guide vanes in the bypass duct of modern large turbofan engines, are reported. Measurements of total and static pressure fields, and velocity magnitude and direction, are made by scanning a small 7-hole pressure probe in planes at three streamwise locations. The effects of a span-wise nonuniform velocity profile on the flow are examined. Sources of error in the 7-hole pressure probe measurements are examined. Wall proximity, velocity shear, and flow distortions from the support arm are modeled. Corrections for these error sources are performed on the data.
