Abstract

The temperature rise on addition of glucose to a cell suspension of Pseudomonas fluorescens has been monitored using monomode optical fibre interferometric techniques. A temperature rise of -0.5°C is measured, however the technique is shown to be capable of ultimate resolution in the μK–mK range.
