Abstract

For fluorescence excitation in the 20 Å to 150 Å wavelength region the bremsstrahlung from an appropriately designed X-ray tube should, contrary to a widely held opinion, well compare with the synchrotron radiation from a high current storage ring. A high power X-ray tube together with a highly resolving grazing incidence concave grating spectrometer are briefly described. First results obtained for the K spectra of oxygen and carbon show that the intensity considerations are substantially correct.
