Abstract
The lowest two members of the Worley's third Rydberg series of N 2, o 3,4 1 Π u ← X 1 Σ g + , have been studied in absorption using a 6.65 m vacuum spectrograph. Rotational analyses are given for five bands of the lowest and for one band of the second lowest member of the series. Practically all the observed vibrational levels are found to be perturbed. Departurbation of levels is effected for both homogeneous and heterogeneous perturbations. In some of the b 1 Π u ← X 1 Σ g + bands involved with homogeneous perturbations the rotational structure was extended and some reassignments of lines were made. Molecular constants of the o 3-state are derived to be T e = 104,693.3 cm −1, ω e = 1987.4 cm −1, ω e χ e = 16.3 cm −1, B e = 1.7339 cm −1, α e = 0.0088 cm −1, and r e = 1.178 5 A ̊ .
