Abstract

Rationale: It is estimated that every third hospitalized patient is at nutritional risk or malnourished, leading to increased risk of complications, higher mortality and increased healthcare costs. Oral health includes several factors that can affect food intake, and as there is currently a lack of knowledge and priority with regard to oral health-related problems in the hospital setting, the relationship between poor oral health and malnutrition may be neglected.
