Abstract

We have measured the thermal behavior of four poly-aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) using high pressure gas flow DSC methods up to ∼7000 kPa. We have shown that there is a linear increase in melting temperature (T m) and heat of fusion () with increasing pressure for all materials studied (naphthalene, anthracene, pyrene, and phenanthrene). As part of the study we have developed in-house protocols to perform these rigorous measurements and we make recommendations to others who will utilize similar equipment which will ensure reliability and repeatability for the measurements performed using high pressure DSC methods.
