Abstract

A new oxycarbonate superconductor CCa 3Cu 2O 7+δ (CCa 2CaCu 2O 7+δ C-1212) with T c = 47 K was synthesized at 6 GPa and 1275°C. It is the first superconductor which contains only Ca as the A-site cation. X-ray powder diffraction and HRTEM studies indicated that this phase has a M-1212 type structure with a = 3.842(1) and c = 10.336(1) A ̊ . The metal site in the charge reservoir is occupied only by C without partial replacement of Cu. Carriers are created by excess-oxygen atoms probably introduced into the charge reservoir.
