Abstract
High pressure synthesis techniques were used to prepare ThB 12and HfB 12. These compounds have the cubic UB 12-type structure with lattice parameters 7.612(1) Å and 7.377(2) Å respectively. The relationship between the lattice parameter for UB 12-type dodecaborides and the coordination number 12 radius of the metal atom differs for lanthanide, actinide and transition metal atoms. The prediction is made that it is possible to prepare AmB 12 at high pressures.
