Abstract

The pressure dependence of absorption and luminescence spectra in anthracene crystals has been studied up to 4.5 GPa at 1.5 K. At ambient pressure, only free exciton luminescence is observed, while coexistence of free exciton luminescence and self-trapped exciton luminescence is observed at pressures higher than 0.16 GPa. The increase of the exciton-phonon coupling constant with pressure is discussed.
