Abstract

The performance of a compact pulsed CO2 laser having uniform volume excitation and capable of operation at atmospheric pressure is described. Measurements of the output pulse energy as a function of discharge voltage, gas composition and pressure have shown that the system delivers pulses with an output energy density of 17 mJ/cm3 at 10.4% efficiency.
