Abstract

The ‘green’ revolution that is a part of moves towards sustainable development, will use high pressure technology as one of its tools. The main impetus for this conversion is twofold; the concern to reduce the usage of solvents and energy, and the value of high pressure as a tool to design and produce products with completely new characteristics. High pressure processes are already operated on the industrial scale but new research has shown the potential for many new processes resulting from the use of high pressure technologies, as well as deriving new fundamental data. There are many opportunities for the development of high-pressure machinery. In this paper a short overview of the present status and further expected developments in research of high pressure technology is presented.
