Abstract

Mössbauer studies under high pressure (0 ⩽ P ⩽ 65 kbar) and in the temperature range between 300 K and 4.2 K were performed in Eu 0.25La 0.75Rh 2 and EuPt 2 with the aim to investigate inter-configurational charge fluctuations. In Eu 0.25La 0.75Rh 2 we find an increase of the energy separation E exc between the Eu 2+ and the Eu 3+ configuration with pressure of 5 K/kbar. In EuPt 2 the Eu atom retained the Eu 2+ state up to 65 kbar.
