Abstract

A high precision measurement of the 1s2p1P1 → 1s2 1S0 (`w') transition energy in heliumlike Ar16+ with respect to the Lyman-α1 transition energy in hydrogenlike Ar17+ has been performed at the Heidelberg electron beam ion trap using a novel flat crystal spectrometer. The result has an uncertainty of only 7 ppm (parts per million) and is in good agreement with the previous best measurement of this transition.
