Abstract

Fermi surface areas in aluminium have been measured using high-precision de Haas-van Alphen techniques. Particular attention has been paid to alignment of the specimen and to the treatment of magnetic interaction. The large phase modulation of the second zone psi oscillations by lower frequencies has been measured and has been shown to be consistent with the Shoenberg theory of magnetic interaction. The significance of this data to bandstructure models and the use of incorrect lattice constants in some earlier calculations, are also briefly discussed.
