Abstract

We describe the simultaneous application of the self-injection and cavity dumping techniques to a flash pumped two-frequency dye laser. Short pulses with 1.5 ns fwhm were obtained with peak power in excess of 100 kW. A peak intensity gain by a factor 3 was observed with respect to normal cavity dumping operation. A simple model is presented to explain the power gain under self injected conditions and it is shown that for long cavities the power gain is limited by the upper laser level lifetime.
