Abstract

A cold-cathode electron gun has been developed in which a pulsed discharge in gas at about 0.1 torr produces a focused beam. With a concave disc cathode 5cm in diameter, a pulsed input of 20kV and 2A in hydrogen gave a power density at the focus between 106 and 107 W/cm2.
