Abstract

In this paper, numerical analysis and simulation have been taken to study frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) with good applications in high power microwave (HPM) protection. The Method of Moment (MoM) and the Particle Swarm Algorithm (PSO) are principally used to optimize the FSSs. The optimized free-standing FsSs (20.5mmx20.5mm in unit size) have good dual-band characteristics at 6GHz and 12GHz, and the multilayer FSSs (28.4mmx28.4mm in unit size and 6mm in thickness) have a good band-stop frequency response characteristics (almost close to total reflection) from 8.4GHz to 9.4GHz, and the transmission coefficient is less than 0.2. Through the CST software simulation results, it can be well demonstrated that the multilayer FSSs have a good effect in high power microwave protection.
