Abstract

High power low noise lasers are needed in high precision interferometric gravitational wave detection In the GEO-600 gravitational wave detector a relative intensity noise of less than 10-8/√Hz and a frequency stability better than 10-3/√Hz will be required. On power levels up to 2 W diode pumped non-planar monolithic Nd: YAG ring lasers (NPRO) are well known for their superior noise properties and their high potential for active stabilisation and intensity noise reduction [1].
