Abstract

A three-phase 68.94 kVA IGBT inverter, capable of switching at 6.95 kHz with a 5% loss limit is presented in this paper. The particular inverter employs a technique known as PWM-SHE (pulse width modulation-specific harmonic elimination), which requires the use of less switching pulses to eliminate the same number of low order harmonics when compared to SPWM technique. PWM-SHE also results in higher utilization of the power conversion process since its fundamental output voltage is significantly higher than those obtained from the SPWM technique. This paper illustrates a 43% higher frequency attainable using the PWM-SHE technique as compared to the SPWM technique, within 5% loss limit consideration.
