Abstract

AbstractWe have analyzed the relation between the conversion efficiency of CLBO crystals for fourth‐harmonic generation of Nd:YAG lasers and the effect of frequency‐conversion parameters such as the peak intensity, crystal length, and so on. We have found that the conversion efficiency of CLBO crystals is related to the product of the average input intensity and the crystal length. By this theoretical investigation, we have generated 20.5‐W UV output power by fourth‐harmonic generation of a Nd:YAG laser in a CLBO crystal. This value is, to our knowledge, the highest UV power generated in any solid‐state laser. © 2001 Scripta Technica, Electr Eng Jpn, 137(2): 18–25, 2001
