Abstract

To the Editor: The Beckman Coulter Prostate Health Index ( phi )1 is an in vitro diagnostic multivariate index assay incorporating immunoassay measurements of prostate-specific antigen (PSA), free PSA, and the free PSA isoform [−2]proPSA (p2PSA) in serum and is calculated as (p2PSA /free PSA × √PSA). In 2012, phi was approved by the Food and Drug Administration to aid in the detection of prostate cancer in men ≥50 years with total PSA concentrations from 4 to 10 ng/mL with a nonsuspicious digital rectal examination.
