Abstract

Transmit reference ultra wideband (TR-UWB) communication system is gaining increased popularity as a prospective transmission scheme for short-range high data rate indoor wireless communication because of its simplification of synchronization and channel estimation that are known to be difficult problems in UWB communication systems. However, TR-UWB has problem that the data rate will be degraded when using the pulse-pair for transmitted one data bit. In this paper, a combined Pulse Position modulation (PPM), Differential BPSK and Multi-Pulse Modulation (MPM) have been proposed in order to increase the total data rate using the same number of pulses. By the these schemes, the modulated pulse that has ever been used for transmitted only one data bit in each pulse-pair in conventional TR-UWB system, can be used for transmitted more than one bit data depending on the level of MPM and PPM modulation. Moreover, the error performance has been upgraded by these modulation schemes as shown in the later section. In addition, the simulation results show that the total throughput performance of the proposed system has been improved, nearly 4-5 times when comparing with the conventional TR-UWB communication system
