Abstract

Nicotine in plasma can be determined by high-performance liquid Chromatography with electrochemical detection to upper picogram levels. A simple one-step extraction, which requires only 0.1 mL of plasma and is able to recover>85% of nicotine in plasma, is described. The precision and nicotine recovery of the method, and the application of this assay in nicotine-infused animal studies, are presented.
