Abstract

A 94.2% pure fraction of methyl-GLA has been isolated in 84.6% yield from extracts ofAnchusa azurea seed oil (Boraginaceae) by means of a four-step process: When same procedure was then tested for the fractionation ofEchium fastuosum (Boraginaceae) seed oil extracts methyl-GLA fractions of almost 100% purity were obtained, although yields were low, because of the presence of significant amounts of α-linolenic acid (ALA) in the oil.
