Abstract

Abstract Liquid chromatography is a separation process in which a mixture is separated into its individual components followed by their detection with a suitable monitor. Optimization of the resolution of the separated components, as well as speed of separation, has been a major interest of many researchers for a very long time. It is well known that the above parameters are directly affected by the size and nature of stationary-phase particles. In conventional liquid chromatography, where gravity was usually used to pull the solvent or mobile phase through a column packed with a stationary phase, a lower limit on the size of particles was eventually reached beyond which flow under gravity completely diminished.
