Abstract

This article presents a novel method for the production of smooth torque as well as high performance speed controller for 6/4 switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives. The proposed method is based on direct torque control (DTC) technique. According to the sign of the error between the command and actual motor torque in addition to the rotor angle, the inverter output voltages are determined. Instead of current controllers, the DTC directly turns the power electronic switches on and off and, hence, fast response is achieved. The nonlinear SRM model is considered and simulation results are obtained to validate the proposed controller.
