Abstract

This paper attempts to show an overall picture of high performance computing (HPC) development in China. It begins with a brief historical review on R&D efforts in the past two decades in this field. Then, the current key project on HPC is introduced, including its motivations, goals, and strategies. The major R&D activities of the key project are presented in detail. Some open issues to be addressed are discussed in the conclusion toward the end of the paper.
