Abstract

Summary This paper presents the formulation of a black-oil reservoir simulator based on a generalized compositional solution algorithm. To achieve high performance on a wide range of computers, the formulation minimizes the number of calculations while maximizing the calculation rate. The simulator is well-suited for high-resolution and for full-field modeling, where large numbers of gridblocks are needed. The capabilities of the simulator are demonstrated by the solution of a series of realistic test problems, with the largest problem containing more than 1 million gridblocks.
