Abstract

Research pertaining to the relevance of skeletal muscle glycogen availability during high intensity exercise was first suggested in the work of Saltin. Intense physical exercise is accompanied by rapid glycogen depletion and lactate accumulation in the working muscle, indicating a high rate of glycolysis.
