Abstract

Summary. A cold auto‐agglutinin that reacts with human group O red cells from both adult and cord bloods was found in high incidence (84%) among 90 group O Yanomama Indians from several villages on the upper Orinoco River of Venezuela. The serological characteristics of the cold antibody revealed anti‐IT specificity. This type of cold agglutinin was absent among 30 Warao Indians who inhabit the Orinoco Delta of Venezuela, and among 50 donors residents from the city of Caracas. In preliminary tests, no correlation was found between the cold agglutinins and antibodies against Trypanosoma cruzi or several ARBO virus antibodies.
