Abstract

A compact high gain frequency beam scanning antenna (FBSA) based on substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) resonator TE 440 mode is presented. The antenna is composed of two layers. The upper layer is a four element TE 440 mode SIW resonator, and the lower layer is a series feed network of spoof SPP slow wave transmission line. In the operating band of 13.5 to 15.5 GHz, simulated beam scanning range of the proposed FBSA is from -18° to +3°. And the peak gains of the radiation patterns reach up to 17.8 to 19.3 dBi. In general, its compact size, low profile, high gain and wide beam scanning range contribute to its potential application prospect in wireless communication and radar systems.
