Abstract

Multilevel DC-DC converters with HF transformer and multilevel DC-AC converter replace the need of a bulky LF transformer in a variable speed wind turbine system. Previously we applied that smart transformer with PMSG variable wind turbine system and full bridge DC-DC converter to reduce the overall weight and size of a wind turbine system (WTS). The reduced weight and size variable speed WTS can place in the tube of the turbine easily and efficiently transfer energy to onshore substation same as a LF transformer. Therefore, the main objective of this paper to design two bidirectional multilevel dual active bridge DC-DC converter for rotor and stator of a DFIG generator of a variable speed wind turbine system and validate the concept by PLECS simulation.
