Abstract

CONGENITALLY athymic mice (nude mice) lack the T cell compartment of the lymphoid system1–3 and their spleen has been extensively used as a source of B cells. It has been shown recently, however, that nude mice have a few T cells4 and precursors for T cells5. These precursors can repopulate a grafted neonatal thymus and differentiate further5, migrate to secondary lymphoid organs5 and restore some T-cell-dependent immunity6.
