Abstract
Water resources the world over are depleting as well as being contaminated by industrial pollutants sewage waste pesticides and fertilizers. In India 4000 cubic km of water is received annually from precipitation. Only half of it is left on land for use and rest is lost through evaporation and plant transpiration. India has 1100 cu. Km of utilizable surface water sources and nearly 900 cu km of groundwater. The surface water has a continuous exchange with atmosphere of dissolved atmospheric gases and can also get polluted by water run-off industrial discharge and municipal waste. (excerpt)
