Abstract

During the last six decades the treatment of hypertrichosis has been performed preferably by the use of a needle electrode conducting negative galvanic current. This is the method of negative electrolysis. The action of the galvanic current brings about cauterization of the hair follicle through the chemical process provoked by this current, in which hydrogen ions are liberated and appear on the surface while sodium hydroxide is formed in the follicle around the needle. This method of destruction of the hair follicle is slow and somewhat painful. The slowness of this process is a handicap, particularly when large areas have to be treated.
