Abstract
High fractional dissociation of H 2 in a helical resonator discharge, operated in inductive mode, has been measured using two-photon allowed laser induced fluorescence of H atom in H 2 and %H 2%N 2 gas mixtures. Absolute H atom density measurements yield 11% dissociation efficiency in H 2 at 1 Torr. The fractional dissociation efficiency of H 2 was found to increase (approaching 100%) with an increase in %N 2 ion H 2N 2 gas mixtures leading to a nearly constant H atom density over a wide range of %H 2%N 2 gas compositions.
