Abstract

Amorphous Co 80− x Er x B 20 alloys have been prepared with 0 > × < 8.6 by melt spinning and their properties studied at 4.2 K under high magnetic fields up to 16 T. The Er moment is 6.5 ± 0.5 μ B. The Co moment decreases by 23% when x is increased from 0 to 8.6 at%. For high applied fields the alloy magnetization starts to increase indicating the existence of a spin flip and/or flop transition. A strong modification in the Er spin structure is shown to occur for x > 1.8.
