Abstract

High-field magnetization process of Nd 2Fe 17 single crystal and interstitially modified single crystals Nd 2Fe 17H 3 and Nd 2Fe 17N 3 at 4.2 K has been investigated to clarify the influence of interstitial H or N on basic magnetism. The second-order crystal electric field (CEF) coefficient A 2 0 was estimated on a basis of the single-ion Hamiltonian, the value of which reaches up to − 1500 K/ a 0 2 at 4.2 K upon nitrogenation and is about three times larger than that for Nd 2Fe 17.
