Abstract

The magnetization processes of quasi one-dimensional Ising antiferromagnets CsCoCl3, CsCoBr3, and RbCoC13 are studied in non destructive pulsed high magnetic fields up to 62T. The characteristic metamagnetic transitions are commonly observed at 4.2 K well below the Neel temperatures. The magnetization processes are analysed by the molecular field approximation taking the inter-chain interaction into account and also by Yang and Yang's rigorous theory of a purely one dimensional antiferromagnet with an anisotropic inter-chain exchange interaction.
