Abstract

Magnetization was observed at 4.2 K up to 36 T and volume magnetostriction was obtained at 4.2 K up to 20 T for Y 1− x Gd x Co 2 (0≤ x≤1). The Co moment is considerably reduced by external fields. The magnetovolume coupling constant is determined to be (7±1) × 10 -3μ B -2. The magnetization curves for x=0.2 and 0.25 show an anomaly which is possibly related to the inverse itinerant electron metamagnetism.
