Abstract

We investigate molecular fragmentation by intense, ultrashort laser pulses using coincidence momentum imaging. We show that the molecules completely fragment at already moderate laser intensities from unexpectedly high charge states. Our results can be explained by a thus far unreported ionization mechanism: enhanced ionization at several C-H bonds in parallel.
