Abstract

Abstract Optimization of electrode profile and discharge cross-section has led to the development of a compact low-pressure N 2 laser with a laser channel of only 10 cm length, capable to deliver 2.3 mJ at 17 kV charging voltage. The high output energy and the good efficiency of 0.065% are attributed to the optimized current density and to the preionization feature of the mesh electrodes.
