Abstract

It is pointed out that the data on cosmic ray propagation in atmosphere require significant violation of scaling in the fragmentation region. This conclusion, although not consistent with current models used for analysis of the multiple particle production is not contradicted by the existing accelerator observations. For further understanding of various cosmic ray phenomena it is absolutely vital to investigate, first of all theoretically, the expected behaviour of the invariant cross-section at large x, taking into account the cosmic ray indications. Those indications should be also taken into account when the accelerator experimental data are analysed. Detailed investigation of the accelerator data indicate that the degree of scaling violation may increase with the primary particle energy. That conclusion is supported by the various cosmic rays observations.
