Abstract

A 72 year old man was admitted after a road traffic accident. He was conscious and clinically stable, though presenting with acute flaccid paraplegia. (A) Computed tomography angiography revealed severe fracture dislocation through T8. A fractured and bevelled vertebral body was compressing the descending thoracic aorta, without aortic rupture. (B) A tapered thoracic endograft (Zenith Alpha; Cook Aortic Interventions, Bloomington, IN, USA) was deployed with the patient on the radiolucent spinal board, reinforcing the aortic wall, and allowing safe patient mobilisation. In ventral decubitus, the dislocation was reduced and a posterior stabilisation performed. The patient is alive and well at the 20 month follow up.Image 1
