Abstract

Abstract Ni-doped ZnO nanoparticles were synthesized by the facile electrochemical method which is simple, cost-effective and eco-friendly and characterized by X-ray diffraction, Scanning electron microscope, Energy dispersive X-ray analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and UV–Vis spectroscopic techniques. The XRD reveals the average crystallite size of Ni-doped ZnO nanoparticles to be 78.3 nm. These nanoparticles have maximum absorption at 340 nm and the bandgap estimated from Tauc's plot found to be 3.1 eV which shows a redshift from that of bulk ZnO, makes it a better photocatalyst under UV light radiation. The photocatalytic activity of the nanoparticles was investigated by photodegradation of textile dye Indigo carmine under ultraviolet radiation. The effects of Ni-doped ZnO on biological systems is presented via its antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Salmonella typhi through disc diffusion method.
