Abstract

This paper focuses on designing high stability and high efficiency driver circuits for Master Oscillator Power Amplifier (MOPA) pulsed laser systems. Among industrial machining lasers, linear current drivers for high power pump laser diode are the most popular topologies. Contrast to lossy linear current drivers, switched mode current drivers can achieve higher efficiency but suffers from laser pulse instability from the current switching ripple. In this paper, a bland new laser driver control system, which varies switching frequency of current source to synchronize with pulsed laser repetition rate, is introduced.
