Abstract
Using an ultrahigh vacuum drop tube, undercooling experiments have been performed on the TaZr system, which exhibits a solid state miscibility gap between 12 and 95 wt.% Ta. The two elements were alloyed using a simple in situ technique; experimental problems encountered for Ta-rich samples are reported. The first metallurgical results are presented and discussed.
