Abstract

AbstractConventional high‐density digital recording using a rotary head requires a high‐accuracy servo system with a high precision in mechanics. By combining double‐track scanning and data rearrangement, a nontracking method by which all data can be reproduced in order has been developed. By using this method, it is shown that a tracking accuracy of ± 100 μm for a track pitch of 9.8 μm is obtained compared to a conventional value of ±5 μm. A stamp‐sized cassette and a compact digital audio tape recorder are developed using this nontracking method and evaporated metal tapes.
